Other Lives, Other Times explores one of humanity’s most enduring mysteries: our relationship with time, existence, and what may lie beyond the life we know. Three enigmatic figures inhabit a symbolic world where ancient signs, a ladder, and extraordinary wings suggest a passage between the earthly and the unknown.

In Other Lives, Other Times, Beatriz Gerenstein reflects on the mystery of human existence and our timeless desire to understand what came before us—and what may exist beyond the boundaries of the visible world.

 

Three elongated figures stand upon an elevated platform, each carrying a different and unexpected wing. One is formed from intricate mechanical gears, another from an energetic web of intersecting lines, while the third unfolds into a spiral. Rather than defining these forms through a single interpretation, Gerenstein allows them to suggest different dimensions of experience: memory and time, complexity and transformation, movement and infinity.

 

A ladder passes through the structure and continues upward, creating a powerful vertical connection between the physical world and an undefined realm above. Across the surface of the platform, mysterious engraved signs evoke fragments of an ancient or perhaps imagined language. Together, these elements give the sculpture the character of an artifact whose origins cannot quite be located in the past, present, or future.

 

The title Other Lives, Other Times opens the work to questions rather than answers. Have we existed in other forms? What remains of those who came before us? Is human existence part of something larger than what we can perceive? Through symbols that feel at once familiar and unknowable, Gerenstein transforms these questions into a meditation on time, spirituality, transcendence, and the enduring human impulse to search for meaning beyond ourselves.
